Re: 20yr Anniversary, The Raising of Bluebird K7
Foot and Mouth made travelling to Cumbria somewhat 'difficult', but with two independent observers embeded with the BBP an immediate past Chairman of the SRC was not needed on the lake shore. Twenty years later and travel to Coniston is not possible. We cannot remember the final recovery of the majo...

Re: Bute / Coniston Back to Back
I don't do FB, never have, so perhaps someone can report anything noteworthy. Thanks for the heads up. Because anything that is said is copied from these pages and used on facebook, I would summarise the last 20 hours or so as being a repeat of all of the usual thoughts on: wreckage recovery; owner...

Re: Bute / Coniston Back to Back
As a speed 'enthusiast', and not a regular hands-on preserver or restorer of the craft K7, I would suggest that K7 is strongly linked with Coniston Water and therefore Coniston village. Even if, for a greater part of the passing decades since being built the shattered parts were submerged. (Except o...

Re: Bute / Coniston Back to Back
I suppose I should help look for another stretch of water for a 'proving trial'. A 'homecoming' on the back of a transporter does not appeal to me.Renegadenemo wrote: ↑Fri Jan 29, 2021 8:17 pm so it's time to accept that there’s nothing for anyone in that direction and even less point in pushing it. it is what it is.

Re: Coniston Bye laws/Ruskin
We will see how the new Byelaws for Coniston Water (CW) function when Records Week apply for dates in 2021. Here are two quotations from the LDNPA website. The first is from the consultation process, which of course has resulted in the 2020 (sic) CW Bye Laws: "The changes proposed should future...

I can recall the Geordie 'bloke' at that evening meal, but who else were with you?Renegadenemo wrote: ↑Tue Jan 05, 2021 10:51 amWe were, however, invited to the Speed Record Club dinner that night quite by chance where many people taught us lotsThe legend of Donald Campbell had begun.

Re: Timing - How were DMC's Runs in K7 Timed....?
The precision clocks are activated (as they are at Speed Records Week today) by tracking telescopes. These are focused on the bow of the craft and activate when they are aligned with the timing post on the opposite shore. [They may have used two telescopes, one behind and higher than the other, for ...

Re: Coniston Bye laws/Ruskin
Not sure I ever know more than the BBP crew, Bill.  I did use the phrase "If the whole process were straightforward ....." I may be optimistic in thinking that the decision makers responsible for the Ruskin Museum could decide that it would be 'correct' to have direct contact in...

Re: Coniston Bye laws/Ruskin
Thanks Richie. Just some background for the readership. The 'outgoing' 2010 Bye Laws were my introduction to working with the BBP. This introduction came about when a Mr. Bill Smith was quoted in print as saying "the craft Bluebird K7 will be rebuilt to the condition as on the morning of 4th Ja...

Re: Coniston Bye laws/Ruskin
The consultation has ended and the new Bye Laws for Coniston Water have been accepted (16/12), confirmed and come in to use in January 2021. The onus then falls on to the village to organise their homecoming festival for Bluebird K7 and with it agree to the team to conduct the Proving Trial of the b...
