There were permanent Proteus generators for the national grid as well https://youtu.be/-kzvfXTpwUs
One of them has been preserved at the Museum of Internal Fire in Wales https://youtu.be/JAuTkPj-LG0

Re: Technical Talk
@conistoncollie - Thank you. I am ex-RR - mainly Marine - so Olympus, Tyne & Spey - for various Frigates & Destroyers, UK & overseas. Only did about 30 knots, but.... they were over 5000 tonnes..... Did you have any involvement with the RR/BS Marine Proteus engine used in the giant SR-N...

Re: Pic of the Day
My views on the air start. If it were down to me I would either forget about using the onboard system and stick with off-board air permanently as is happening on Bute, or have two new spheres made from scratch. As you said Bill no-one knows how many cycles the originals have been through and no amou...

Re: Isle of Bute
hope you have his mascot with you, our thought will be with you No thanks, the furry little sod is a jinx!!! Was the furry little sod in CN7 when Donald came unstuck at Bonneville? If it was, and Donald had had second thoughts about the bear's role in subsequent record attemps then history mi...

Re: Bluebird Project You Tube Channel & Vimeo
I take my hat off to you guys with what you have achieved, this is simply awesome! It's only when you see all the photos in these videos that you can really see the amount of work that has gone into rebuilding the boat. I guess it won't be long before an Orph' is lifted into her, will you be doing a...

Re: Bluebird Project Online Shop
Will you be making a DVD of the crew training on Bute in August? I guess there are many people like myself that can't make it up there and I think a DVD showing K7 firing up on water and moving under her own power for the first time since 1967 could be quite popular. Just a thought.

Re: Pic of the Day
I have a couple of questions regarding today's POTD and the one on Wednesday. Firstly, is the new seat and harness a permanent installation or will Donald's original seat be going back after the proving trials? And secondly, seeing the unfinished tail fin in the background on Wednesday's POTD made m...

Re: What have forum members been up to?
Wow!! Some serious progress there Bill, it can't be long before an engine goes in and stays in. When you say 'get an engine in ahead of some full power tests to be sure we're getting 100% when we want it' do you mean 100% as Bristol Siddeley intended or 100% as in derated for the rebuilt K7?

Re: Return to the Water
Quite simply, if the LDNPA and Coniston don't get their act together and welcome Bluebird with open arms they will be the laughing stock of the whole planet if the proving trials take place elsewhere. They will have egg on their face for many years to come for throwing away the opportunity of the ce...
