Crusader had quite a few leaks to plug, most of them, surprise suprise, in the sponson...

Re: Technical Talk

There is actually a drawing for the little flaps in the sponson tops, they were designed with a leather hinge. The main thing to be aware with on the sponsons is that the shoes were never used. They came off early on and were replaced with 3/16th thick plates. The wedges remained unchanged and are ...

Re: Technical Talk

In order to research the model I have been trying to prepare a scale drawing of the 1966/67 version. I have been u...

Re: Technical Talk

Having arrived at this thread somewhat after the event can I clarify sponson overall length. 1. Original sponson (or float) 12ft 3 3/4 inches (as quoted on drawings 'supplied with full permission Ken Norris' CD via Fred Blois). 2. 1966 sponson 12 ft 9 1/2 inches (extra length added in rear upper cov...

Re: "The Heart Of The Gnat"

Not sure if this has appeared on this thread (apologies if it has) but www.britishpathe.com/video/farnborough-air-display-5 shows XM691 in flight at Farnborough 1962. It appears at 00:39 to 00:42. In 1964 XM691 was at Bristol Siddeley in the flight shed where it was used for Orpheus development, fli...

Re: Technical Talk

Steve
looking forward to your book about Crusader/Railton. Any firm date for publication?
As a young lad growing up in Birmingham I remember well the Cobb/Railton Special in the old Bham Science Museum (now the Think Tank).
