Yet the Pegasus used a totally different fuel system to the Orph, for some reason, with a big, complicated Dowty setup on top of the engine rather than the usual Lucas bits and bobs. Wouldn't mind a Pegasus to play with, there's always a few for sale. That would do interesting things on our test rig!

I'd noticed this piece before coming on here today. Awfully nostalgic to view all those pix.

I've great memories of seeing the QE2 being built, as I was living in Glasgow at the time. And then I saw it at very close quarters when it first left John Brown's, at the dry-dock at Greenock for fitting-out, 1968.

Just fabulous, at a time when it seemed Britain could do anything it set its mind to.

Used to travel a lot by sea when I was a kid. Many trips on the old Canberra, a few on the original Oriana or any other ship we could get a berth on and now and again we'd fetch up in the same port as the QE2. It was like coming across a spaceship - such was her aura and reputation. A beautiful vessel to say the least. So what's she doing in Dubai when there's plenty of space in trendy London dockland?

So.... the boffins dried the wood out and now its changed shape...... and they didn't expect this ????? REALLY ????? there is a reason old wooden boats are best kept wet and that is if they are allowed to dry out too much the wood shrinks.


I knew that and I am a "dumb-coff" from Shields.

Hardly surprising her shape is changing considering half of her is missing.
