Why would anyone want to keep hold of a part of K7 that could be used again - isnt that a bit stingey? I can understand things like the paint-chips and other bits that are otherwise useless.

But when the boat is zipping up the lake again, all you'd be able to say is 'look at this bit of old metal that used to be a part of Bluebird'.

We asked if we could have it back so we could build it back into the boat but the answer was a firm, No.

We tried.

Evidence that the two mascots were affixed to the CN7 cockpit in 64... and not to the dashboard. I think they were transfered to K7 for the Dumbleyung attempt...

Which begs the question-under what circumstances were these parts of privately owned Bluebird K7 obtained and did the person who obtained them do so with prior permission?- I haverun into this type of quandary with aircrash stuff-souveneir hunters blagging important parts,sometimes before they were cool!-besides the fact that "grabbing" important parts of K7 like this is a bit of a "bad show"-

Not being at Coniston during the search period immediately after the crash nor during the 'search and recovery' phase by the Navy I cannot say who obtained what of the pieces that were brought ashore. The owner was dead, so if they remained on site, the team members (and designers) would have had to shoulder the responsibility of what to do with them, at a time of great sorrow.

As no one has ever questioned the rightful ownership or method of acquisition of the items on public display at Filching whilst the boat was under the water what makes it questionable or so 'outrageous' now? I am sure Steve or Feed can confirm that much of PF-H collection came from Leo Villa or public sales. If they did and there is a collection already in a museum then why give them up? Next we can start on the Lakeland motor Museum collection items that have hitherto not been on display. Then the private collections that are out of this country.

Everything that was recovered was taken "dan sarf" by Ken Norris, everything. Even the divers asking for a "trophy" were denied until Norris' had done there own investigation. The bits that Leo had, were from this "stock pile", and when he met PFH, he said he'd like to sell some of it, and PFH paid him on the promise it would go to Paul (then in Crowborough) on Leo's death. As I knew both men, I'll leave it at that!!

Everything that was recovered was taken "dan sarf" by Ken Norris, everything.
It would have been the easiest thing in the world to stash a juicy trinket in the bottom of the rope basket and squirrel it away later. Anything could have been snaffled in 67 and may well explain why we've not found such interesting pieces as the instrument panel and the nose badge.

Tell me about it... First time I was down there I nicked the portside spray baffle, or what was left of it anyway. It was just hanging on the little strut that held it off the bodywork so I pulled it off. That's how come I knew the sports divers had never been anywhere near it. That would've been long gone. I'll put it back one day though.

Didn't we acquire some clump weights for Predator that way and wern't they "Acquired" from the police underwater search team !!!!
