You are clearly a cunning linguist....Renegadenemo wrote:Orpheuses (Orpheus' would be the posessive plural) - it's Greek. Were it Latin it would be Orphei. Like Octopuses, Octo is Latin but 'pus' is Greek for foot it would be 'pod' in Latin.2 Beryl's and two Orpheus' (Orphei?)

Great April's Fool today guys, but the weakness is that £14.79 is just not credible as a Halford's price - try £114.79!

Aye, 'twas a good little prank, that one, and it caught a few unwary visitors. The gaskets were actually cut out with a scalpel from genuine British-made gasket paper so it was at least partially true. The home made oil pump is now fully run in and ready to be fitted, we're just waiting on twiddly bits for the rest of the oil system so we can build it all in one go to minimise the chance of getting contaminants in there. All the stainless work is done on the oil and breather pipes and the inlet is more or less finished too. Mike has made some very clever bracketry to adapt the 701 air-start system to the 101 gearbox case and our engine frame is being blasted and painted as we speak. There's bugger all going on with the boat, mind you. Apart from the rivet twins knocking seven bells out of it and one of the lads making endless patches for a panel, that is.

Interesting pic and words today with the stuff being blown out of the frame tubes. What else needs to be done before the transom can go back?

Yeah... that's about it, as soon as someone designs the spraying apparatus then designs and perfects a process for properly coating the insides of tubes we can't inspect. Then there's the rigging to consider. How to safely sling the boat from an overhead RSJ so we can temporarily dismantle the aft end of the rollover jig without dropping the boat or hurting anyone (not necessarily in that order). Once that's done we have to dry-build the transom with it's myriad shims and spacers to be sure we have everything and we have to check the stack-up thicknesses of all the various pieces of material so rivets of the correct grip-length can be specified too. Then it's all to bits again for the choccie sauce then, as they say in the Haynes manual, reassembly is the reverse of disassembly except that someone countersunk the transom with a half inch drill back in the day and many of the holes are awful and will let the water in unless we do something so a museologically-friendly and reversible repair scheme must be dreamt up to get those sorted before the rivets go in. Nowt to it!A corrosion inhibitor will be sprayed onto the inner surfaces of the tubes, and then that's it- temporarily sling the stern from the roof, whip off the rear jig, on goes the transom with oodles of choccie sauce, then back onto the jig she goes.
This, boys and girls, is what takes the time. Last Saturday Rob was blowing out frame tubes while Mike made doublers for under the flap-trays while Chris (our Cockney geezer alloy welder mate) and I grafted in about a square foot of original tinware. By the end of the day we were all knackered and satisfied at our good day's work but there was bugger-all extra to see.

This may be a stupid answer and a bit obvious Bill but what about a Waxoyl applicator spray?-might do the job!
