That pic of K7, and quite a few others were transposed during printing, and David never got a chance to see a proof copy from the publishers before they started the print run. (He was mortified when they produced 3000 production copies with the various errors). That image was taken in 56, after the mods to the cockpit and the flute's were applied. The Jet pipe orifice has been masked, with the Beryl not installed. It was kept at Abbots, Donald's home to be reinstalled when the boat came back from the coach-builders. All the other 56 pics are in fact images taken in 57.MikeT wrote:Thats what caused me to look at the pic in more detail the jet pipe I know its only one faulty picture but when the book is sold as a photo album and has very few words in it you'd of thought they could at least get the super duper special 3D pics right. Non the less I'm really pleased with it a fantastic set of photos that I wouldn't have stood a chance of finding elsewhere.Mike Bull wrote: Never noticed that, but you're right. Never quite worked out what was going on with the jet pipe in that photo either?!
walks off tuting at the thought of folk riping out pics of beautiful CN7 just cause it isn't a boat

I wasn't even aware that the flutes had been changed untill I looked at the book, I don't know how much differance they make perfomance wise but from a looks point I think they make the boat a hell of a lot better looking. On another note I've been looking at stereo realist camera's on flea bay since I got the album and if I can get a cheap(ish) one and a viewer I'm thinking of adding one to my collection.sheppane wrote:

David was disappointed with the print reproduction on the 3d images. When viewed as the slides, with 3d glasses, they are spectacular. Some work much better tan others in the book.MikeT wrote:I wasn't even aware that the flutes had been changed untill I looked at the book, I don't know how much differance they make perfomance wise but from a looks point I think they make the boat a hell of a lot better looking. I guessed they must be better than the ones in the book otherwise why bother taking the pictures at all if a normal camera is better. Perhaps there is a market all be it a limited one for him to knock out a few repro slides I know a certain chap in the potteries who'd love some. Not sure if you can get a modern version of the viewer if so it'd make a nice little set the slides and viewer in one go.sheppane wrote:

Re: New Members
Hi all,
Been following the rebuild for a while now and thought I would join the forum after corresponding with Mike B on a model forum.
The other reason for joining is that I am just embarking on the build of a Touchwood 1/12 K7 and I guess here is as good a place as any to get answers and info. The final model will be static so I want to get as much detail on it as possible, though it won't involve building the engine!
Mike has already given me a few pointers and there will be much to do to bring the kit up the the level I'm after.
Cheers for now.

Re: New Members
Hello all,
I've always been fascinated by LSR and WSR, particularly the Campbell dynasty, but what leads me to the Bluebird Project in particular is the Barracuda. I'm an aviation writer and specialise in naval aviation and happen to be working on a book on the Barra, which has been an off-and-on thing since I finished my book on the Blackburn Skua four and a half years ago. I met Bill briefly at the launch of the Barra project at Yeovilton last year and did a blog entry on it here - http://navalairhistory.wordpress.com/20 ... -wreckage/ and here - http://navalairhistory.wordpress.com/20 ... llections/
...So I look forward to that side of things getting going. But one thing at a time, of course!
I have to add that I have just purchased a copy of the print 'Patience' from the BBP shop and it is absolutely beautiful - a really evocative work and highly recommended. Mine is number 37, so if they are being sold in order there are only another 13 opportunities to own a copy... I can't wait to see the real thing back where she belongs, especially after having been to Coniston last year and Ullswater last month.

Hello,
I started reading the diary page then decided that it would be only fair to read the diary archive before signing up to the forum and posting, I am up to 2007 so far and thought I might buy the project a weekly Lottery ticket in the hope it hits the jackpot just out of spite for the HLF. The commitment you guys have is staggering and I am beginning to think that reading the diary from 2007 onwards will make me feel like the last 5 years of my life have been truly wasted!
Regards, Mike

Hi Mike,
Welcome aboard and so glad you're enjoying the diary. I only wish I had more time to write in it but this year has been a little frantic to say the least. Doesn't mean we've not been slogging away though. Just waiting on john to put the lid on the engine cover and Bullfrog to stop stringing out his job on the air intakes and we'll well on our way.

Thanks for the welcome aboard Bill. I'm plugging away at the diary archive but it's dragging me away from working on a regular basis, once I catch up with the diary there's only the forum posts and links to do and I'll feel up to speed! I had built up an impression from the Sky News documetary that the rebuild was a behind closed doors job much like a lot of aircraft rebuilds you never get to see much of, the website and forum have shown how misinformed I was.
