Shame about the inaccurate reporting. Still, all credit to the K3 team for getting her up and running; after all, pending the glorious day when K7 struts her stuff again, how many other outright water or land speed record breaking machines are still in running order?Mike Bull wrote:BBC news video on the boat running here-

When's that thing coming into the workshop then? looks like an afternoon to strip it, a couple of days for Bettablast to sort some new surface coatings and maybe a day to build it up again. We can squeeze that in.Yes, I'd noticed that! Well bless him, he was looking a bit rusty...

I have been involved in the K3 project in the latter stages designing & sorting out the cooling system along with another friend & most enjoyable it has been too. We wanted to make sure the engine wouldn't suffer the same fate as R37 &, so far, all has been good although clearly there has been no high rpm running yet. We have copious amounts of water coming out of the back that's for sure once she gets on the plane - & that she does very easily. So far she has got up to 39.7 mph with ease at 1200(ish) rpm, so there is a bit more to come although Karl is keen not to push the old girl too hard. Even at these low speeds she looks right, I took some video & watched it in b&w & she really looked the part. It was a shame the engine/vee drive driveshaft broke when the media was there, but for a split second when Karl opened the throttle a bit to far/sharply that Meteor really sounded the business. Luckily no damage was done when the shaft broke. We are already doing the sums for a new shaft so she will be back afloat in the spring for more testing.
She is also surprisingly dry inside, with only minor leaks which are only to be expected for a wooden boat of this construction & age. She has 3 pumps fitted just in case though & lots of buoyancy fitted as well (albeit not the ping pong balls in hessian sacks as she originally had).
