Having been offline for a week or two, I have to ask;

1) What in the name of the Virgin Mary's left nipple has been going on??!

2) Why do I get the immediate impression that an old band of proven bottom-feeders have once again become so bloated with c**p that they've floated to the surface to spew it forth at whatever they believe has a texture suitable to allow some of it to stick?

Are not two factors at play here, the legal and emotional position. I understand that the laws relating to salvage only apply to tidal waters and therefore do not apply in this case. I do not think it is disputed now that ownership was originally with the family and that ownership now lies elsewhere in which case a clear understanding of the terms of the transfer for a consideration should have been understood by both parties at that time. With the terms of the transfer understood substantial money and time has been spent restoring K7 with the clear intention to make a run on Coniston Water. There are also the sponsors to consider.

Has not the moral position been fully considered with the family consulted and an agreement reached. Whilst no doubt everybody fully sympathises with the emotions in play here and how these can change with time especially as any “event” draws near these factors should have been taken into account at the time of the agreement. I believe that Miss. Campbell is a power boat racer and an astute business woman and therefore should clearly understand the implications of the original agreement and the complications of changing course now. This would tend to indicate, as has been said by others, that there is more to this than the emotional situation which has been brought into play.

As things stand now what amounts to “contractual” agreements should be completed with the intended run on Coniston Water.

Personally, I feel that another run is a very fitting and memorable tribute to one of Britain’s great heroes and should take place on the basis that the agreement of the relatives had been previously obtained. If the family had wanted to have the final say they should not have allowed ownership to have passed out of their control together with the financial implications that went with that.
It is unlikely that the media is going to see anything other than the emotional side of this and it is very necessary that the other side of the case be put wherever and whenever possible.

I fear that there may well be worse to come.

For what it is worth in what is now a public relations exercise I voted YES.

I have acknowledged elsewhwere on the web that I do not know all that is going on with recent events such as change of mind, 'prams and rattles', event management, statements through third parties, forming limited companies and so on ............... But, I feel that the BBP will just get another verbal mauling over locking a discussion topic on its own site - even if it was about 'elephants'.

The BBP have already been blamed for getting two pistonhead topics locked and then deleted. Last time I looked the third was still running.

At least when 'others' are posting words and pictures there is a 'hazy' picture of what might be expected to happen when an operating K7 is returned to Coniston and the Ruskin Museum.

Yes, Freedom of Speech has to take into account the worldwide audience, but we should not shrink from explaining to critics what is happening behind the work of conserveering and perhaps in private inform those businesses who are supporting the project why there are periodic 'attacks'.

The sponsons look amazing. Still a bit of a way to go with them though but at least they are right. As for a verbal mauling, it's just another day at the office.

Re The Elephant In The Room thread, I make the following observation.

Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers. Needless to say, with that right comes the responsibility to behave in a decent and non offensive fashion.

So at the risk of being controversial, may I ask who made the request to close, and on what basis was the decision taken to close the Elephant In The Room thread? To the best of my knowledge, it contained no offensive posts, and a number of points that were raised remain unanswered.

These days I try not to comment on these forums, keeps me sane!. Having read some thoroughly depressing threads here and there on the subject of K7 I feel I need to say this and please dont anyone be offended. It comes from my heart.

On balance I believe the one person who has the moral right to decide what happens to K7 is Gina, a lady I have met more than once and interviewed. K7 will be finished when shes finished and thereafter for all time Bill and those who worked to restore her will be remembered long after those of us around now have gone. Any decision to run K7 must be one for Gina because when all is said and done it was her fathers boat and cost his life. Many many people feel they have something to say and offer on the subject however for me the one person that really matters is Gina Campbell.

I can foresee one heck of a storm brewing if Gina made it clear she did not want the boat run on Coniston and those wishes were ignored. K7 has throughout its history had its share of problems and it would be very sad if the excellent project to restore her ended with more.

Bill, Novie, Mike and co just keep doing what you are doing and in the end I am sure all will work out well. Ignore the internet idiots who must have very sad lives.

We have known and respected each other for many years Ernie and your comments and thoughts on any subject are always most welcome old friend.
I fully understand your comments regarding Gina a friend to us both over many years. But as you say Ernie there are some sad individuals out there on forums that lead very sad lives and will stop at nothing to miss inform,twist and generally say anything to achieve their own ends,even stooping so low in taking advantage of vulnerable people! Sick individuals ( The keyboard fraternity ) who need taking out into that car park you mention sometime ago for a friendly chat to iron out and clarify matters once and for all

This posting may well appear or be quoted on certain other forums but who give's a sh-t at what these pathetic individuals do or think!

I'm quite sure this matter will sort itself out as any project worth doing has its little ups and downs from time to time. Look at the struggle D.C himself had out in Australia in 1963 with C.N 7 and the Mustards of this world trying to place a spanner in the works.

Always got time and the deepest respect for you Ernie old friend. The worlds finest "working" model maker of them all and a true gent. If you come over to Ullswater or the lakes to run one of your fine models drop me a line and we can meet up for a beer.
