Neil Edmonds was rumoured to have been heavily scammed on a Blue Ribbon attempt across Atlantic. Roevin are a historic supplier of designers in the aircraft and high tech industries. I heard the designs were carried out in BSP offices in Boreham wood also where the gull wing door for the de Lorean car was designed. I was an aircraft design engineer in the 80s and offices could be rented there for projects. It was rumoured 20 draughtsmen we’re in his office but only on his monthly visits his drawings were on the boards the rest of the time aircraft work was being done charged once to Hawkers and also to Edmonds for make believe boat design.

If you want to see Noel Edmunds go red and have steam come out of his ears.

I thought this was pretty much a constant state of affairs with him nowadays!

Was a tale told by quite a few designers in that era. We all worked in BSP industries office at one time or another. ;)

Your right he was totally scammed into a blue ribbon challenge design. So imbarrased he never pursued it.

I recall as a child watching my dad racing powerboats on the Tyne, we used to stand on the Tuxedo Princess and watch them racing past.

Noel Edmunds turned up and was offered a ride in a Marlboro liveried Boat.... well...he got stuck, or something happened which resulted in the boat and him being craned out of the water together, delaying the racing.

Lots of annoyed people that day.

I have spoken to a friend who was involved with Noel Edmonds. He cannot remember any Blue ribbon /transatlantic boat scam. He was allegedly scammed by Basil Wainwright over the Excaliber project. Wainwright allegedly went to prison over this and the papillon affair. I think Wainwright went to America and tried other 'projects' before he passed away.

Dear Polo,
It seems Edmonds is an excellent children’s entertainer ,game show host etc but the worlds worst business man. Seems his life has been spent trying to get back money squandered on misplaced egotistical tech projects and big payer projects. Yes can confirm that it was BSP Industries office in Boreham wood where his Atlantic boat which was tiny in comparison to record holders of the 20th century. Have just heard again from old “job shopper” friend who remembers doing Trident mods and repair schemes 90% time and when Edmonds did a tour most of office putting up working drawings of his boat on their boards. The dosh we made in those days was v good. From the SAS motto who dares wins, we would say who cares who pays ! So much of these high tech projects never saw light.
