As I'm sure most of you will know already, the Aussies are getting right behind the anniversary of Donald's 'double' in a big way, and they are busy having a static display replica of the '64 spec K7 built...

The Australians are and have been celebrating the double in a big way since October with Gina flying out to attend the Motor Classics show which had a big display on Donald Campbell C.B.E and his amazing achievements. Gina is also flying out again to help them mark the 31-12-2014 as she is amazed by the lengths they are going to out there.

The capturing of the stories that arose because of the 1964 attempt - along with the replica display and the interpretive story - show the spirit of those in Dumbleyung and in Australia for their part played in the Bluebird K7 & Donald Campbell story. It baffles me why any chance of a group or groups rekindling the story on a 'worldwide stage' might be lost (even though some purists might point out the technical visual differences between the look of the craft two years apart)'.

It is my view that the custodians of the craft, who already know and state that Bluebird is an "International brand", should have this high up their list of 'what to do with Donald's K7 boat' (if not at the very top), rather than just dwelling on a static display which could increase footfall and something called 'dwell time'.

I certainly agree, Malcolm. At present, a trip to the U.K isn't quite on my radar, but a road trip to Dumbleyung certainly would be.

Found this cool video you lot may enjoy - especially good if you've always wondered what the Metro-Vic engine sounded like.
Looks like DMC was only wearing budgie smugglers and his helmet when he broke the record too...
