Not strictly true... we did note the time as we passed the end of the Kilo in 2001 and Paul Hannaford worked out the time for the return run but at 34 years and a couple of months it wasn't the quickest time the old tin machine ever set but there'll be another chance in the not too distant future and, though it'll not be the same degree of hurtle, it ought to be a good bit quicker then three and a half decades.48 years ago today, just after 8.48 am, Bluebird K7 hurtle's towards the measured kilometre for the last time...

The Speed Record Club made it's annual pilgrimage to Coniston for the weekend to mark the 48th anniversary of Donald's accident and to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the double. The Club was also joined by Thrust 2 designer John Ackroyd who updated members on Rosco McGlashan's progress with Aussie Invader 5R.

We visited Coniston on the 4th January. What a shame I knew nothing of any meeting.
After visiting his grave we went to the plaques and took this photograph.

Re: 4th January 2015
The Speed record Club has gathered every year on the Sunday nearest to the 4th January since the early nineties. This year the fourth fell on the Sunday so the K7 Club was also in attendance to lay their wreath as they have done so since 1967. Next year because the New year will be on the Friday and this will probably see the SRC annual meeting being held the following weekend due to heavy numbers of New year people still taking up the Hotels etc. The annual meeting has been highlighted on this forum and other forums over the years and sorry that you were not aware of our gathering. We always encourage people to join us were possible.
Cheers

Thanks Novie. Please don't feel like you have to defend the meetings publicity at all, it's my own fault for not been aware of these meetings. We have usually just gone up to Coniston and 'done our own thing'. I've followed the SRC Facebook page now so should see the future meetings and activities.
