The course was set on top of the Brambles sand bank to keep us clear of the main shipping. The wind wasn't the problem it was the sea state due to being in relatively shallow water. Once we crossed into deeper water it wasn't a problem.

We had a chuckle on day two, after the weather on day one most crews were donning dry suits and full length wetsuits, where as we went out in shorts and bluebird polo shirts... folk couldn't believe it..... but when compared to the North Sea the Solent is very warm indeed !

southern softies I guess.

What amazed me was how very very saline the Solent is compared with elsewhere. Once the seawater had evaporated off the salt was like grit!
