Where can Bluebird be seen

The berthing of Bluebird in the dedicated wing of the Ruskin Museum built in 2008 has nothing to do with the Proving Trial of K7 as defined in the Coniston Water Bye Laws.

Nor will she be going in there immediately following any proving trial as she will have to return to her North Shields home for the extensive work to get her dried out and inhibited.

as of today there is still nothing in place to host any sort of a homecoming event. Maybe that is about to change.

When did you last speak to CPC or the Business Forum or the people of Coniston? When we have a date we can confirm and book everyone ......Coniston can throw a party!

The writer of these questions, for those who may be worried, is not a reporter. As always the BBP answer questions asked as completely as possible.

The last face to face meetings with representatives of the CPC and BF were on Bute in August (the second week of crew training), and through the medium of edited air play there was a radio interview broadcast as well in Cumbria, whilst the team were finishing training. Electronic written discussions have taken place since then, when ever there was news expected from Coniston, such as the post Bute 'Statement' from the Working Group. Electronic communication by the device called a telephone has happened too, last week.

Just because some dates have been decided does not ensure the Proving Trial just goes ahead - the LDNPA do need something more to work with, as has been discussed on other threads in this forum. Could it be that those in the area are working on the solution, not the 'problem'?

Some time after agreement has been reached and contracts signed to ensure unhindered future running, touring, conservation, maintenance and anti-det measures for the boat as we're yet to meet anyone who thinks it's a good idea to leave 15 years of hard work to gather dust, seize up and not thrill the crowds again as it did on Bute.


Several requests have been made for the museum's proposals on these matters but as yet none have been received. That may be about to change too.

From the top - after months of offering totally useless dates, depths of winter, kids in school, no weekends or running after 4.00pm, the Coniston Hooray Hoopla Coming Home Committee finally pitched some dates at the end of July that tick the boxes. We were then asked to accept them but it's one thing to accept dates and have the public told we're coming but quite another to actually be able to host the event and having organised just such an event on Bute this year we know what's involved.
So we asked if the bureaucratic bulls**t placed in our path by the park Wombles had been swept aside to allow us to do our jobs and were assured that, yes it had, all obstacles removed and we were good to go. We took them at their word and accepted the dates with the caveat that if we didn't see real progress in reasonable time we reserved the right to bale out of the Coniston gig and run the boat at an alternate venue.
Yesterday we discovered that the Wombles haven't even signed off the dates let alone removed the bureaucratic bulls**t and the Coniston Hooray Hoopla Coming Home Committee don't have another meeting until November! They need a meeting at least once a week if they're to stand a chance, not November...
So we're back in a holding pattern while we await the Wombles et al but in the meantime we're going to survey the proposed launching site to see if we can get K7 into the water there. It might be fine, it might need sandbags or a slipway mat so we'll go find out. And we're also prepping the boat to be ready in time so we'll stick to our side of the deal and see what shakes loose.
