How fast?

Post by tas »

How fast does K7 have to go to come out of the water and start planing?

Although I reckon a rebuilt K7 is still potentially the fastest boat ever, we all know she's not going to be doing 300+mph again. But what kind of speed can we expect to see in order to watch her as she was designed to move?

According to the Norris Bros. thrust / drag / speed curves the boat ought to climb out of the water at around 65mph using 2400lbs of thrust, which is good for more than 200mph once she unsticks. But that was in record breaking trim with a forward CoG so we can bring the planing speed down somewhat and limit the available engine thrust to keep her inside her safe operating envelope even at full throttle.
As for an estimated speed, that sort of depends on how she looks when planing. 100-ish, perhaps...

Cheers for the info, really cannot wait to see her running.

Shame she wasn't built as a 2 seater like thrust 2 - though she wouldn't look half as good - people would sell their grannies to have a ride in her!
