hi
just a few simple points, apologies if they have been answered before on the site ?
Is there any form of complete TV footage from both runs on January 4th 1967 ?
i.e. Tv footage of Donald leaving Pier Cottage in Bluebird and racing down Coniston, then turning around at the refuelling point and racing back South to North ?
(I've only saw footage of the crash but not the actual complete runs either way )
Does anyone have the complete transcript of Donalds radio transmissions from Bluebird to Base from January 4th.
( again i've only heard some of the transmissions, mostly relating to the final run, but i'd like to hear ALL of Donalds RT from that day )
In your opinion, is there any truth in the theory that Bluebirds engine cut out, and that was the reason she went airborne ?
I know its just one possible theory out of a million, of what actually happened ?
But i'm sure some healthy debate from the people on the site is welcomed by all )
cheers

Hi There,
According to Ken Norris, who actually told me, had Donald hit the brake 'BEFORE' he decelerated, K7 would 'NEVER' have left the water.
However, decelerating 'BEFORE' operating to brake, changed everything. The down pressure on the bow, was gone, and the air pressure under the boat took over.
The result we all know.
Kind regards, Fred

Re: The Last run....
The brake was discovered to be down when we lifted the boat but that's not to say it wasn't deployed by the onboard accumulator possibly years after the crash. Even if we discover the accumulator to be empty it still means little because the hyd pressure could have leaked away anyway.

Mike,
If you view the crash video there is definite higher plume of spray from the rear of the transom just as the bows lift away from the water, this is where it is thought the brake was deployed. However i think if this is the case the drag that this created at the stern would have caused the boat to rotate even more quickly as the bows were already airbourne.

Approx 20 secs in and a very quick plume

Re: The Last run....
If you view the footage at normal speed it is easier to pick up the pattern as the brake deploys , you have to be quick as it only produces a puff of higher spray above the spray plume for a second before the stern leaves the water completely.

morning
i bet there's someone out there that has the full script of Donalds Communications from January 4th 1967. C'mon, can you share it with us ? i'm sure most people would find it worthy and interesting.
or if you'd prefer to PM to me if you dont want it public, then be my guest.
would appreciate any help.....

Re: The Last run....
The problem with the transcript is that so much of it is unclear, especially on the first run. With a little imagination you can have him reciting his shopping list in there. You just have to look at the going/gone controversy to see that throwing in another few dozen RT broadcasts would only serve to fan the flames.

I think the 'original' tape has been locked away for summat like 50 yrs after it was used as evidence at the inquest held in Coniston into the events surrounding the accident on 4th Jan...Was there anything on the tape that isn't meant to be heard, probably not? I do believe either Leap into legend or Man beind the Mask contains a transcript of the last run? ChrisDrewski wrote:morning

Re: The Last run....
There's nothing especially incriminating on there. One thing that is noteworthy, however, is how quickly that boat accelerates! Donald mutters on for a minute about all the water flying about as he sets off then he says, "And, she's away..." and next you hear he's shouting about passing through two-hundred. It's phenomenal.

think its "days that shook the world" that say bluebird accelerated from 70mph to 200 mph in six seconds! thats some kick up the arse in accelleration! shows what happens when you get "over the hump"
