Had a cracking day in the workshop with load of our team who only get to visit once a year after Records Week. It was bedlam but great to see you all.

Thanks to all in North Shields for their welcome. I was able to work on the large piece of metal that appears to come out of Novies right ear - the sponson capping piece. Thanks again to all of the regulars who looked after us and to Bill of course who allows 'bedlam' on the premises.

We had our usual heavy session in the workshop today. Mike did something with a pencil and rubber, the sponsoneers got all but the final toast rack finished on Lefty while I pushed some shapes around for the next lump of sponson top but it was Checkie who sprung the biggest surprise.
On stripping down the triggering mechanism for the fire suppression it turned out to be pressure operated and completely mechanical and when the 'fire wire' was warmed with a torch it still worked perfectly closing a small pair of contacts via a bourdon tube and some clockwork gismos. Astonishing!

The great aspect is that we can now restore the whole fire suppression system to working condition! The only non-original parts will be the wiring and also the cockpit control panel, which was lost in the crash. I know I rant about it less and less as the years go by but, so far as those museum and lottery-flops were concerned, us taking the cover off that thing and applying heat to the wire would have constituted 'destroying history'. I've made a few dodgy calls in my time but telling that useless shower of feculent to take a flying fling at a rolling pastry was definitely not one I will ever regret.That was bloody impressive, and yet another total justification of what we're doing- I tell you, the thing wants to live again!
Checkie is well on the way to resurrecting the whole system and we'll have a test-firing of it so you can all see how it works. Is that destroying history or bringing it to life?

We had our Christmas drink with the boss yesterday. Gina called in to see how the build was progressing, dropped off a couple of bottles of scrummy red then took us for a pint at the local. We spent the rest of the afternoon inflicting injuries on ourselves...
