Then I lay the gauntlet at your feet..... Summer of 2015 a wreck will be located and decent object of brass will be presented.

But he doesn't drink !!
We could put that to a simple test... here's the bottle of 30 year old malt you asked for - do you want it or do you not?

Besides, it's all a huge rip-off because the whiskey is matured in old barrels that formerly contained brandy then chucked into glass bottles after which no change takes place whatsoever so if it's one year or thirty years, the only difference is whether or not you're daft enough to pay for the missing three decades.

Not so, my friend. The age statement on a bottle of whisky refers solely to the length of time it has spent maturing in casks before bottling. There lies the difference between a "30 year old bottle of malt whisky" and a "bottle of 30 year old malt whisky". Anyway, I'm just glad it will be you paying and not me.....

Also, the maturing whisky absorbs both flavor and colour from the wood. Some malts are matured in plain oak barrels and others in old sherry or port barrels. This imbues various flavours and the colour can range from very pale to quite dark accordingly. Cheaper whiskies not matured in this way are generally colored using caramel, which is detectable in the smell and taste.

As per above its the length of time it has spent in the cask.

Al, your right, I don't drink, but for a 30 year old malt I would set my medical issues to one side !
