A very fair question, though what someone with the wherewithal to buy the Spit in the first place would then do with a dumpy bag of salt-corroded crumbs is an equally valid point. Melt it into man-tat, perhaps.I wonder: if you stump up the £1.5 million or so for the airworthy Spitfire, does that also entitle you to the actual remains that were recovered from the beach?

Buzz gave me a wristwatch with a bit of Lunar Module in it - but I sold it.
Does this mean I missed my chance to build a genuine NASA moon-lander?
Surely there has to be limits to everything. Even lunacy!

Give them a call and see if they want some new bits... We have a few sheets of tin left over.

Doesn't look too bad; certainly not a self-sustaining fire. Possibly the sort of incident that might be caused by an oil leak onto an exhaust pipe. Bear in mind that Lancasters have flown home from Berlin with far worse damage than that....

Re: The Vulcan XH558 & General Aviation Thread
I suspected that the Lancaster repairs would not be a straightforward matter. Such a shame it will miss so many events. But as the statement implies, it could have been a lot worse if the aircraft had been en route somewhere and not had a place to put down quickly.
At the more modern end of the classic-warbird spectrum, Cold War jet fans take note that a wide variety of aircraft should be making high-speed dashes down the runway at Bruntingthorpe at this coming Sunday's Open Day there.
All subject to aircraft serviceability on the day, the mix could include Buccaneers (one of which has one of our engines in it, on loan), Lightnings, Hunter, Victor, Comet, VC10, Nimrod, Jet Provost and Canberra.

I posted via tapatalk so it shows the video imbedded and not just the link. Probably doesn't work if I did the same via the forum on the webpage. Hope that makes sense.

Re: The Vulcan XH558 & General Aviation Thread
got this today from my paragliding club.....
The last flying Avro Vulcan will be flying over Carlisle on Saturday and probably will pass through the Lakes afterwards
Solway Aviation Museum say
"For the last time ever, Vulcan Bomber XH558 will be coming over Carlisle Airport this Saturday (27.06.2015) at 14:23hrs as part of its Farewell To Flight Tour and completing a couple of passes. Please arrive early in case the time changes and the Fly-Past will also be weather dependent on the day - See more at: http://www.solway-aviation-museum.co.uk ... gCZU7.dpuf"
Routing on Saturday (times Zulu)
532833N 0010012W (DONCASTER AIRPORT)1200
535528N 0005751W(ELVINGTON AIRFIELD) 1210
541621N 0002320W (SCARBOROUGH)1223
545445N 0012803W(SUNDERLAND)1243
555958N 0024304W(EAST FORTUNE AERODROME)1308
545614N 0024833W(CARLISLE AIRPORT)1323
532814N 0022326W(MANCHESTER BARTON AERODROME)1400
532010N 0020923W(WOODFORD AERODROME)1409
523824N 0021820W(RAF COSFORD)1423
524951N 0011916W(EAST MIDLANDS AIRPORT)1437
530559N 0004529W(NEWARK)1445
532833N 0010012W(DONCASTER AIRPORT)1458
So its unlikely to leave Carlisle before 1430. Theres a good probability of it flying through the Lakes so watch out - there's going to be a lot of wake votices about.
If you're interested in this sort of thing, then this is probably the last time you will see it flying in the North. It's on it's last season and will stop flying in the Autumn.
