Bluebird Ashtray

Really interested to read about the discovery of K7's ashtray. Did you managed to recover the cigarette lighter too? I remember one of the team telling me that they had to install one in the dash, specifically at the Donalds request! Chris

Yes we did get the lighter back
There is a photo of it in the diary archive on 8th August 2001

Cool! Did Bill manage to salvage the 'Don & Ton 4 Ever' Canopy sticker? Chris

Dont worry too much if you were fooled by the April fool ashtray scam as two members of the rebuild team were took in by it and have been heavily de urinated at tonights session. Names to the highest bidder.

And I'll do it for free. John Tidy asked why I'd never mentioned the ashtray before when I called him this morning on an unrelated matter then backpedalled when I said it was a wind up but Mike Ramsay bought it hook, line and sinker. As we say in the workshop - if you have a weakness you're dead. So he was executed on the spot.

O.K. I'll admit it. Totally forgot yesterdays date and was COMPLETELY taken in.
Wondered if Donald had one of those in dash ciggy lighters?
Thought of him flicking out the ash at 280 mph. Some kind of cool.

I wouldn't of put it past him to have a ciggy lighter in there? Rauno Aaltonen had two in his '68 Monte Mini so he could smoke whilst rallying.

Those were the days!
