Re: Bluebird & Other Scale Models

Wow, that HMS Hood is a fantastic model! How lucky he ‘missed the boat’, but a fantastic story and family historical connection :) It’s so easy to get lost in detailing these things - I built the 1/350 titanic years ago, converted it to the Olympic, bought all the photoetch hop-ups and still haven’t...

Re: Bluebird & Other Scale Models

Hope you’re all keeping safe and well - I finally got around to testing crusader last night - just needs the propshaft lowering a tad, no video but snapped a few pics... Also managed to get my spirit of Australia out, see attached video. This was on just under half throttle. 1/8th K7 still having fu...

Re: Bluebird & Other Scale Models

Turns out Tamiya masking tape isn’t as good as I thought - a bit of bleed, but it’ll touch up /polish out.
The colour I decided on in the end... Halfords brake calliper paint...

Re: Bluebird & Other Scale Models

Now with all this virus malarkey, I’ve had a lot of time on my hands to look at some Crusader stills from the Castrol film. It’s long been disputed about the colour photos showing some kind of gold pinstripe between the red and silver. This gold doesn’t appear on black and white photos. Going back t...

Re: Bluebird & Other Scale Models

Interesting - I didn’t realise the science behind the pressures relative to depth increases, but makes sense now - the extent of my knowledge of compressed gasses is inflating tyres for a living... You want to see how bad my tea making skills are without any external influences first  As is s...

Re: Bluebird & Other Scale Models

Just keeping him safe in the current climate with that mask ;) but seriously, I think it was only for the radio, as the only pictures I’ve seen show no tube attached. That’s interesting, like you say, there’s not much room in there for much air, I’m not volunteering to be CO2 poinsoned in the name o...

Re: Bluebird & Other Scale Models

Little update on my own crusader project - we now have a very monochrome looking John Cobb to sit in a monochrome looking Crusader :)
Judging by all the period photos, this shade of grey appears correct ;)

Re: Bluebird & Other Scale Models

Cheers Richie, Like I said, all Ernie’s work, I’ve just started to add the details. I’m not sure what the motor is as the water jacket hides the details, however it’s a big (36mm?) brushless at a guess 2000kv, with a swordfish 220A ESC driving a flexishaft. I’ve never tried gyros in boats before, bu...
