Re: Avro Vulcan XL319

What do you need anti-collision lights for? I always struggle with this stuff but I'm wrong. What does it need twinkly lights for? put simply, it doesn't. Nothing is going to crash into it but I remember the crew being aghast in 2001 when I was quite happy to recover Donald in a plastic box. Needle...

Re: Avro Vulcan XL319

Careful, you'll be accused of 'media misinformation tricks' again...   Accused of what? The media have always loved us for delivering warm and uplifting human interest stories - stories like bringing a poor old Vulcan back from the dead. It'll be epic! That said - have to be careful...

Re: Avro Vulcan XL319

We have a good idea what those lights are now and have been offered one to copy. We've pretty much ironed out the issues with running an engine too. Just need a little more practice at starting and we can bring everything up to date. We're just helping the museum to get the most out of it, it's thei...

Re: Avro Vulcan XL319

Bill, I understand your plan is to start the engine and run it - I asume in idle or a little above. How do you consider the overall condition of the engine? Would it be possible to run it full throttle? It would certainly be possible but it wouldn't be a clever idea - keep throwing fuel in and it w...

Re: Avro Vulcan XL319

Obviously it'll never fly again, but what is the ultimate goal with this one? Nope, no flying for this one any time soon. Many moons ago we wanted some valves from it to rebuild Bluebird's onboard start system. Much research and pleading with Goodrich Power Systems for the use of the old Lucas Rota...

Re: Avro Vulcan XL319

Ooh, good. I can waffle on endlessly in here about the finer points of o-rings and D-size piston pumps, how the rapid start uses a combustor and which spool drives which quill shaft.

Re: Planning Time before the Proving Trial?

Thanks for clarification. Best wishes for your negotiations and a successful outcome
Thanks. We reached agreement some years ago so there's a solid starting point. Will likely need one or two small tweaks but negotiations oughtn't be too difficult.

Re: Planning Time before the Proving Trial?

If the 2020 trails rely on the same people/organizations which prevented the 2019 trails, then I don't bet a penny on any runs in 2020. There has to be something in the pipeline. There was enough notice behind closed doors of the crew training on Bute such that it could have been relocated to Conis...

Re: Planning Time before the Proving Trial?

What is perhaps more disturbing is that this 'activity' is no longer localised to a village, a town, a District, a County or even a Country. It goes Worldwide. It's just history repeating itself. The Type-IIIs kicked off when we raised the wreck. We'd defiled a hero's grave, blah-de-blah. They were...

Re: Planning Time before the Proving Trial?

It would seem that on other forms of social media there is discussion of the information I have given above. I understand it is being used to try to show that the personnel in and associated with the BBP gives out contradicting or 'exaggerated' info. Ah, Malcolm... all these years the team have tol...
