Re: Off the Rails - Train Stuff

I have been reading this thread with interest. Good stuff! I was about13 years old, 60 years ago, and an avid train spotter living in Ashington Northumberland. I have never forgotten the sound of a Deltic approaching at speed on its way South. It was 'Lancon Paddy' . Tremendous machines. Like many ...

Re: Off the Rails - Train Stuff

Ah the one I have is blue and yellow. They're actually quite common...Unless they have pantographs for electrical pickup on the roof. They're even rarer than the green ones. Regardless, they're a pretty cool bit of kit. I've even thought about buying one just to have it sitting on my display shelf.

Re: Off the Rails - Train Stuff

I have an old OO gauge tri-ang loco like that, the light even works on it !! It’s the closest I have actually got to the real thing unfortunately Ah yes. The Transcontinental, which is based upon our B class. I'm currently looking for a green one with the pantographs on the roof for a mate's 50th n...

Re: LOST!! Hep Me!! Hep Me!!

Sam 68. Better if you post under your real name, carries more weight. Why? You wouldn't have heard of me, so I might as well just call myself something mundane (how about Bill Smith? There's a nice, bland average name for you?) and you wouldn't know any difference. Meanwhile, if Billy Liar is so (r...

Re: Off the Rails - Train Stuff

Deltics are cool. Had a look at a few a few years back when I was in the UK, but didn't see any in action. Over here in Australia we have locos dating from 1952 still in revenue service running freight. The oldest two would be GM10 (June 1952), which was built for the Commonwealth Railways, and B61 ...

Re: Off the Rails - Train Stuff

Something which may interest a few of you. On my recent travels, I managed to get a photo of CL17 under restoration in Cootamundra, NSW. CL17 was built by Clyde Engineering, Granville NSW in 1972. It is historically significant, as it was the last bulldog/bullnosed diesel built in the world by an af...

Without descending into petty insults (it matters nought to me who started it, we're adults, correct?). The emails that Bill has referenced may not be able to be released publicly for a myriad of reasons. They could contain sensitive and/or personal information which can't easily be redacted or omit...

Re: Off the Rails - Train Stuff

Sounds possible that the tubes weren't expanded or caulked at the tube plate properly. It also sounds as though the boiler has hogged through a rush of cold air, which probably was enough to cool the tubes causing them to contract and weep at the front tube plate. In laymens terms, the tube plate is...
