As a fairly OT link to recent activity, there used to be a hovercraft on Bute back in the 1960s offering pleasure trips to sightseers. I remember because I went on one! Iirc it was an SRN5 which left from the beach near Rothesay Pavilion and landed ashore in the middle of nowhere -I suspect at Ardy...

I hope they get round to restoring one of the giant SRN4 hovercraft. Last I heard was that one or both were due to be cut up for scrap to make space for housing. :evil:

Think how much money that lot spent in the local shops, hostelries, B&Bs etc... Well Coniston and the surrounding area would get that many times over. We live in hope!

Excuse my ignorance but I take it the Orph' had to be shut down for refuelling for obvious safety reasons? Next job is to see if we can get a new pair of properly safe and tested start bottles to go on board so we can really see what it can/can't do. I'm a little confused here Bill, does this mean ...

Did he have an Engine Flame Out at just the wrong time - yes - and then lost the very useful downward force on the bows, due to Engine Thrust - yes. What else could he have then done...? Probably nothing. Could that and previous flameouts have been caused by a missing clamp screw in the battery con...
