Re: Pic of the Day
Will give you a shout when I get back from the good ole US of A Bill, off this weekend for a fun-packed trip to the Cummins mothership.
Good luck to the BBP team, makes me proud to be British (and a North-easterner to boot!). Damn fine work, chaps!

Hi Mike
Back on line thank you very much mind but you may just get a gentle slap next i see you for that green paint Jibe Re the cadets that particular day must have seen at least fifty children pass through the doors. And they did not hang around with the rocks and lace stuff either straight into the Bluebird extension wing . Mind you life always has its draw backs, they kept stopping me getting on by asking many questions but glad to keep them informed of our Hero and whats happening to Bluebird K7. However Mike as you know I cannot take all the credit for those shiny panels Dawn Sempill has been a pillar of strength and has worked her fingers to the bone with me on those panels. A Lass and a half, still more to do though so enough said back to work.
Cheers

I must admit to being a little bemused by the description of todays POTD.
After all the work done on resurrecting many acres (metaphorically speaking) of bent and crumpled tin, why are the outer intake skins beyond saving?
Is there a photo showing the full skin to back up the "The skins are beyond saving" part, especially after all the artwork so far achieved?

Re: Pic of the Day
It wasn't intended that way Mike, I just meant that after all the stellar work so far, it seemed quite odd that the skins were beyond salvage given the photograph used for POTD.Mike Bull wrote: [SNIP]
Good point, if put in a slightly accusative manner!

My appologies if it came across in that manner.
What I was trying to say / ask, was that if a photograph of the full skin was available to aid the point being made about the it being beyond salvage.

Hi Mike
Just for complete clarity here as you use the word "Skins are beyond repair". If I am correct you are referring to the whole Outer Air Intake Skin which retains its crumpled state from the impact but little in the way of strength due to corrosion. So it would not be fit for purpose, however I think the decision was taken sometime ago ( if I recall correctly?) to preserve/place this item in the Ruskin.I think the confusion is coming from the use of the word "Skins" Only in the postings but I could have it completely wrong. Just trying to help matey

folks....I have not seen the covers but i can guarantee if Mike says its bad, it must be absolutely categorically beyond safe use, the boys...and girl have resurrected some of the most wonderful scrumpled crisp packet shaped pieces of tin, but As Mike says if its corroded so far there is little can be done. So i will hand on heart back him up on that front......even though he dont like Sav dips !
different gravy for a restoration that is to remain lifeless and static no doubt the corrosion could be neutralised and consolidated with some sort of magic compound jiggery watsits..... but she will breath fire and conjure up the best in british imagination once again upon completion...of course this is only the case if you are over 40ish

Yeah, the outer skin is knackered. About 25% of it has corroded through and that's without the crash damage. We'd lose more then we'd gain by repairing it so it's officially retired and destned for the museum display.

love the POTD.... probably just me but that day the workshop had a buzz about it, the boat was bristling with folk all doing different bits, on the occasions i looked up and around, it was a pleasure to witness the sheer focus on everyone's face's... i was having a ball yet on the picture i look angry... must have been that white skin pin giving me grief... but Youth and myself got there in the end.... only one more "former" to go
as always its both a privilege and a pleasure to be helping you guys
