For tricky currents the Sound of Mull is a hard one to beat, or even the Farne Islands. I'd be interested to know what went wrong in this case - a fiver says it was a breather issue.

Well, it is over 3 years since I wrote those words and, just to prove that 59 isn't too old, I dived the Naxos Beaufighter last Friday. A stunning dive and the fulfilment of all that I hoped to do when I first took up diving.
Second dive of the day was the MV Mariana, a bulk carrier run aground in 1981, allegedly in an attempted insurance scam. Her stern section lies at a max depth of 24 metres with her mast just breaking the surface, making for an interesting multi-level dive.
Here are a few photos; blame the dive master for the diver rather than the wrecks being the main subject matter and yes, I am the fat, bald one with the snorkel....

Lots to think about when using it, and that's before gas switching comes into play (or what ever you guru diver types call it).

what I did love was the fact all you hear is the solenoid firing behind your head, the air you breath is warm and moist rather than dry and cold, and although it is bulky on the surface, it seemed ok to wear / fly.


currently really enjoying being back in the water, but I am sat waiting for my ears to implode again and stop the party.
