I would just like to congratulate everyone on their tremendous work in restoring Donald Campbell’s boat. Having seen the wreckage brought to the shore at Coniston Water in 2001 I was completely overwhelmed and just couldn’t imagine how it could be possibly restored. I was eleven years old at the time of the accident and was horrified to see it on the TV news. It was also miraculous that you were able to recover Donald’s remains. The painstaking work by everyone at the BBP to bring the boat back to its past glory has been amazing.

I agree with you El Lole, the restoration of K7 is unbelievable. I wasn't about when DMC crashed (happened well before my time), but I remember seeing a newscast for the twentieth anniversary of the crash when I was about six here in Australia. I do remember my father adding commentary as K7 sped along to meet her fate. He came from England, and would have been nineteen when K7 came to grief on Coniston Water. I must admit that DMC himself doesn't really hold a lot of interest to me, even though the boat would never have existed without him. The thing that fascinates me is the engineering behind the boat and it's evolution over the years, prior to January 1967. The other thing that interests me is the anatomy of the restoration itself - how a complete wreck can be taken out of the depths, and virtually reverse engineered into a functioning boat again is utterly compelling.

Thank you - very much appreciated. We grafted hard for best part of 15 years in that workshop and I often forget half of the things we did in that time until I start watching the Progress videos on YouTube and then I think, when did we have time to do that? It really brings it home just how much we had to get through.

We're enjoying a bit of a hiatus at the moment because there's still a hell of a lot to do before we can call Bluebird properly finished and next time we build her it'll be to go back to the water so in the not too distant future we'll get back to it all refreshed and filled with our usual enthusiasm.
