Its called the 'crocker system'. As stated earlier it is a tripod with a 'telescope on top. The 'timer' aims the cross wires on the telescope at the front of the boat and follows it. As the telescope turns it hits a point where electronic contact is made to start the clock. At the end of the 'mile' there is a similar system. Again the 'timer' follows the front of the boat until the electronic signal is sent to stop the clock. In the return run the same thing happens in timer station reverse. Tony Fahey had the first 'laser' system set up so when the 'line was broken the clocks started or stopped. Miss Britain turned up whilst K8 was under trials and set the first 'laser' timing record.
